Studying Abroad: Learning Science and Technology at Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU)

Abstract
This research report explores what makes Norway (NTNU) is a good choice to learn science and technology for Japanese students. The author used 5 websites to research science and technology education in the Norway. The author’s analysis shows that the NTNU is a nice university to learn science and technology because in the Norway, there is usually not tuition fee so it is not expensive to learn, the Norwegian science with strong ties to Japanese science and in the university, there are some student housings. For Japanese students who want to learn science and technology, the Norway’s NTNU is a good choice to learn science and technology.

Keywords: Norway, NTNU, science, technology

Introduction
As stated by POLYGLOT GEEK (2021) in the Norway, English is a second language and approximately 90% of Norwegian can speak English smoothly. That because in Norway students learn English from an early age so we can take high level English education. And in the Norway, all public universities don’t take tuition fee. That is a country that is few in number even across the world. Among them, science and technology are especially connected to Japan. The aim of this research is to explore the reasons of why learning science and technology in Norway is said that is good.

Literature Review
As I said before, in the Norway all public universities don’t take any tuition fees. And private universities take tuition fee but foreign students can take class with same tuition fee with local students. That form of universities tuition fee is rare in the world. But off course teachers, researchers and professors need salaries. Where are they from? Why is university free in Norway? It’s easy question. According to University of Bergen (2019), they are from public funds. So, in the Norway tax is a little higher than Japan. But it makes that free tuition, student should feel happy and appreciate.

Between Japan and Norway, there are strong relationships at science & technology field. According to Martin B. Andersson (2015), before this many science dialogs between Japan and Norway were held. Specifically, a dialogue between NTNU and the National Institute for Material Sciences (NIMS) on mobility toward of the institutional collaboration or dialog between the Norwegian Institute for Energy Technology (IFE) and Tohoku University on energy
storage and others. In addition, Norway and Japan conducted joint research of marine, polar and space fields. So, Norway especially NTNU is very nice place for students who want to learn science in a foreign country connected with Japan.

Like I said earlier, Norway’s tax and cost of living is high. Norwegian standard VAT rate is 25%. So it is difficult that rent cheap apartment to commute school. So student housing is grateful for students. According to NTNU (2021), all students are allocated student housing in the spring semester. And in the autumn semester, some students have to find private housing but most international master’s degree students from non-EU/EEA countries haven’t move other place. As stated by NTNU (2021), cheapest single room (with a shared bathroom and kitchen)’s price is 3400NOK.
It is approximately 43000 yen in Japan. It is not too expensive. So it is better than rent extensive apartment in the city.

Summary
Recent research on learning science and technology in the Norway (NTNU) has provided an understanding what makes Norway (NTNU) is a good choice to learn science and technology for Japanese students. Current findings suggest that learning in the NTNU has many merits and conditions for Japanese student. I think no tuition fees is the number one reason why many foreign students want to study in Norway because it is very rare and relate with all students who study abroad in Norway. But deep science relationships between Japan and Norway also important reason for students who want to learn science connected with Japan. And not too expensive student housing is important reason as well for students who worry about cost. And according to Studyportals (2021), in NTNU, there are 11 master’s programs so we can learn many kinds of science and technology. Furthermore, in Norway, English is second language so Norway (NTNU) is the best university for students who want to learn science and technology in English with few costs connected with Japan. And it should be more popular for people who want to study abroad.
