Studying Abroad: How International Students Can Enroll into University of New Zealand

Abstract

　This research report explains how international student can enroll to college or university in New Zealand for student in Saitama city. The author used 1magazine and 20 websites to research school enroll system in the New Zealand. The author’s analysis shows that one of the New Zealand’s school entrance exam using IB qualification. New Zealand is a good country for students who have IB qualification.

Introduction

　 New Zealand has a lot of university and according to Key Facts and Figures 2019, many students come from China and popular to Asia’s students. Even among them, 8 of school are national university. According to study portals master, these school are rank in the top university of world（2021）. New Zealand University have many undergraduate. For example, general things faculty of art and business school that is not major. Especially, New Zealand’s university are focusing on the Faculty of Engineering and students can learn to use or learn about state-of-the-art-technology. As stated by Auckland University there are 8678 students out of 43,148 students in 2019. It mean, even at one university, university accept about 20%’s international students. The aim of this research is explore how international students can enrollNew Zealand’s university research by some site and books.

Literature Review

　 Basically, New Zealand’s university can enroll without entrance exam. Also, New Zealand’s university doesn’t have enroll on recommendation. So passed a university or not are decide by resume. So, applicant must fulfill the requirements. There are some methods to enroll the university and requirements are change with method. The number of methods is different on each university but there are many enroll method. One is to use the “Pearson Test of English”, “New Zealand Certificate in English Language”.  Focus only enroll method which international students can take, University of New Zealand has some kinds of method to enroll the school. International students need to show own English level to university. Based on these, one method takes advantage of the English proficiency test like Cambridge Assessment International Education （Cambridge International）or TOEFL. Another method take advantage of the International Baccalaureate（IB）Diploma.

          First of all, about English proficiency test. In place which accept many qualifications, they include about 10 qualifications. Almost New Zealand’s university accept Cambridge Assessment International Education（Cambridge International）and TOEFL. Actually, all of 8 national university accept TOEFL and Cambridge International. Cambridge International is qualification of English and there are no level classification. According to Cambridge Assessment English, test score determines the result and evaluate 7 stage（preA1 A1 A2 B1 B2 C1 C2）. New Zealand’s university, make requirement and students need to take score more than 162[The University of Waikato show the requirement that score of 162 and this is most lowest score in 8 national university of New Zealand ]. So we need to take C1-C2 score of Cambridge International.

　 Next of all, about International Baccalaureate（IB）Diploma. This is also accept by all of national university in New Zealand. Diploma take score by exam and student take evaluation by internal evaluation, external evaluation and skill. In addition, Diploma can take exam only accredit school of the international baccalaureate. New Zealand’s university, it makes requirement and students need to take score more than 24points. [The University of Auckland show the requirement that point of 24 and it lowest score of 8 national university] There are no data to show the rate of IB diploma enroll but According to CRIMSON, “the acceptance rate of IB students into Ivy League universities is up to 18% higher than the total population acceptance rate.”  “Top-ranked universities outside of the Ivy League, where it is 22% higher, on average.” In A CRIMSOM EDUCATION RESOUCE, about IB STUDENT ACCEPTANCE RATES AT THE TOP 25 US UNIVERSITIES page in 2, since 2018. Also, Diploma is one course of IB and there are no data about New Zealand’s university but as stated by Portland public school, acceptance rate of Diploma students is higher than IB Applicants in America. （2021） It mean Diploma is high demand among IB. There for, there are two possible methods to go abroad and enroll to New Zealand’s university for international students, using qualifications and enroll using English qualifications.

Conclusion   

　 Once again, the aim of Research is explore New Zealand’s university enroll system. As a result, this research has provided an understanding of how international students enroll in university in New Zealand. Also, New Zealand’s university enroll system use resume examination. Forces on resume examination which international students be include in the target, result is divide by qualification which each person have. There are some kinds of eligibility qualification. One is qualification to show own English level and another is Diploma. TOEFL and Cambridge　International are representative examples of qualifications that show own English level and can get by international students. To pass the university, not just get the qualification, student need to get high score than score which show by each university. About the Diploma, it can get only accredit school. But evaluation of it is high and rate of successful examinees is high than general. Similarly to English qualification, Diploma has score requirement set by each university. Basic think by abroad in university, there are some method for international students to enroll the New Zealand’s university. There for answer of report topic is, to enroll the university in New Zealand, student need to get some target of qualification and need to get score more than requirement score.
