Literature Review
The original hamburger steak, tartar steak, is eaten without heating. The tartar steak, which first spread in Russia, first changed from mutton to beef, adding chopped onions and raw eggs. After that, it was brought to Hamburg, Germany’s port, due to active trade. The Germans, who liked tartar steaks, made further improvements by mixing salt, pepper and various spices. One day around the 17th century, a person who tried to eat a tartar steak that he could not eat was surprised at the crispness of the outside and the soft and juicy harmony of the inside, and the theory that the acquaintances were told was conveyed. And at this point, the dish from this tartar steak was not yet called hamburger steak.
Around the 18th and 19th centuries, when the route was established between Hamburg, Germany, which became known as the port of the world, and New York, USA, some people moved between the two countries and some immigrated to the United States. At that time, in Hamburg, there was a widespread dish of grilled tartar steak, served with fried eggs and bread, and this dish was brought to the United States. Then, this dish is called “Born in Hamburg” and finally called “Hamburg”. If you compare the place name “Hamburg” with the food name “hamburger”, you can see that the names are very similar.
Hamburgers who have acquired citizenship in the United States can be eaten between breads at the beginning of the 20th century. There are various theories about the style of sandwiching hamburgers, such as being born in a dining room in Connecticut in 1900, and it is not clear when it came to be called “hamburger”. And the hamburger made a national debut at the World’s Fair in St. Louis in 1904 (“The History of the Hamburger: An American Invention”).
Conclusion
The hamburger is derived from the “tartar steak,” which was introduced from Russia to Hamburg, Germany. Also, the tartar steak, which became a hamburger, was introduced to the United States by trade. And the hamburger was born with the fact that the hamburger was sandwiched between breads. In addition, Hamburger made a national debut at the St. Louis World’s Fair.
