Abstract
This research article studies the reasons that make Taiwan a popular tourist spot for Japanese. The author uses one website and one magazine to study the reasons for Taiwan’s popularity with the Japanese. The author’s analysis shows that Taiwan is an attractive option for the Japanese to travel to. Plenty of good food and tea, kindness and Japanese language skills. Taiwan is a great place to travel to!
Introduction
Of Japan’s 126.3 million people, 2 million of them have visited Taiwan. In fact, this number does not include people who are on overseas business trip or returning people, only the number of tourists. China, South Korea, India and other countries of Asia may the most popular destinations for tours. The aim of research is to know what makes Taiwan so much popular with the Japanese.
Literature Review
Taiwan has a lot of delicious food. For example, tapioca milk tea, soup dumpling, pineapple cake, noodles, minced pork rice and mango shaved. In particular, soup dumpling is so popular in Japan that it is sold as frozen food and some Taiwan shops have opened in Japan. Taiwan has also become one of the most popular places to drink tea. There are many tea shops in Taiwan, such as Taiwan Jasmine tea, Taiwan Beauty, Tuocha and others which are very popular with the Japanese. And, tapioca milk tea was originality created in Taiwan. Maybe it is because tapioca has become so popular in Japan, it has become popular with Japanese.
Taiwanese are very nice to the Japanese. According to the article “Why do Taiwanese speak Japanese? the history and reasons for being a pro-Japanese country and attracting inbound tourism” in Japanese website, it dates back to 1895. Japan colonized Taiwan for about 50 years until its unconditional surrender in World War II. Fierce battles raged there, and thousands of people lost their pro-Japanese sentiment. The reason for this is because of Japanese’s policies in Taiwan. The first point is that Taiwan’s infrastructure was developed during the Japanese occupation. The construction of the railway, the redevelopment of the part as an international commercial port, the development of water facilities, and other infrastructure improvements based on urban planning had a major impact on the development of Taiwan’s post-war generous economy. The second point is that there were Japanese who gave the Taiwanese a generous education. The generous education guide a great impact on Taiwanese educators, and the school enrollment rate of Taiwanese school-age children rose from 0.5 to 0.6 percent of the total population immediately after the rule, to 70 percent by 1943. By the end of the war, the literacy rate had risen to 92.5 percent and was the foundation for Taiwanese are so kind to the Japanese and why Taiwan is so popular with the Japanese.
Taiwan people know and understand a little Japanese. Japanese language education was conducted during the Japanese colonial period in order to spread the Japanese language. Elementary schools were established as experimental schools for compulsory education. And then national language transmission centers were established throughout Taiwan, which were then promoted to teach the Taiwanese people the basic structure of the Japanese language, with national language education accounting for the majority of the education. So that the elderly in Taiwan could speak Japanese. It has also been passed down from parents to children, which is why modern Taiwanese people can speak a little a Japanese. In addition, there are many Japanese and transverse characters in Taiwanese. The people of Taiwan speak Japanese, so Japanese people can enjoy their visit.
Conclusion
This research about the reasons for Taiwan’s popularity among the Japanese has helped understand the reasons from a variety of perspectives. Taiwan is popular with the Japanese because of its many delicious foods and teas. And, because tapioca milk tea has become especially popular in Japan, which has led to an increase in the number of people traveling there. We also found out that Taiwanese is kind to the Japanese because they are grateful to the Japanese for their economic development, which was made possible by the development of infrastructure when Taiwan was a colony of Japan. At some time, because of the promotion of Japanese language education, there are many Taiwanese who can speak Japanese, and the Taiwanese language has some similarities to the Japanese language. So, Taiwan is so popular with Japanese.
