Finland is a great place to study.
Introduction
Finland’s education system is regarded as one of the best in the world. In about 2000, Finland was the best country on ability to read and understand (citation needed). From this result, Japanese increased interest to the education system. But why is education in Finland so advanced? What are the differences between Japan’s education and Finland’s education? The aim of this research is to explore the features about education in Finland.
Literature Review
Finland’s education system has many features. First, Finland thinks that cooperation is important than competition. So, there is no standardized testing or teacher’s evaluation. Next, students do not have distress to go to school. There are many outdoor activities and no much homework. Also, school days are short and the students do not need to wake up early and go back home late.
Another thing is that there are many good teachers. In Finland, many people have high motivation to be a teacher and they study a lot. This means, students can get good education at schools. Last, there are systems for early childhood education and care in Finland (citation needed). It can help children to socialize with other children. Like this, Finland has a great education system that other countries do not have.
Finland’s education system has a lot of differences between Japan. The first difference is that you don’t need to pay a money to go to school in Finland, but you have to pay money to go to school in Japan. This will affect to the college enrollment rate. You can see that the Finland’s college enrollment is higher than Japan (citation needed). Another difference is that Japan doesn’t have a long summer break. So, students have more days to go to school and it will be difficult for them to relax. The last difference is that many Japanese students are not good at creative thinking. Finland’s students are good at thinking creatively because they can think creative when they take classes. As you can see, there are many differences between Japan’s education and Finland’s education.
Finland’s education system is great. But what is the history of Finland’s educaion? There are four big things that happended in 1980’s (citation needed).
① The population ratio of taking education increased
In 1970’s, only 7 percent of the people in Finland went to university but in 2010 it in creased to 28 percent (citation needed). Especially, the growth rate was very high in 1980’s. The data from 2008 said that 99 percent of people in Finland graduated middle school, and 90 percent of peopl in Finland graduated high school.
② Made the learning result homogenize
Until 1970’s, the difference of the learning result was very big. So, from 1980’s Finland’s education system had changed (citation needed). They were separating students in 3 level before. This means that each students take different level of education. But now, Finland stopped this system so that everyone can take the same level of education.
③ Get good results in international student learning assessments
Finland got a good result on international student learning assessments sice they changed their study system in 1980’s (citation needed).
④ Make education free up through university.
98 percent of education expense is free in Finland (citation needed). This might be a reason that many people went to university and the result of the tests are good.
Therefore, Finland’s education system has a history to make the education better for students and to level up their knowledge.
Conclusion
Finland is known as the country that has a great study system for students and they’ve got a good result on international students learning assessments recently. Finland had changed their study system in 40 years and there are some differences between other countries education system. As a result, this change made the Finland education system better. Japan’s education is changing right now. This might be a great change to make Japaan’s education great and level up children’s knowledge like what Finland did before.
