American School Lunches

Abstract
This research article explores the difference between Japanese and American school lunch systems. The author used 2 websites to research American school lunch and Japanese school lunch. The author’s analysis shows American school lunch system is unhealthy compared to Japan because the catering companies are doing business to make money and it seems that children’s health is not always a top priority.

Introduction.
The population in America is 328,200,000 and 13% of them are students (Citation needed). American students eat school lunch at cafeteria, but some students eat their own lunch instead. As you can see, the school lunch system in the U.S. is very different from that of Japan. The aim of this research is to explore the differences between the Japanese and American school lunch systems.

Literature Review
Many countries such as China, Korea and Italy school lunches are eaten at school. However, the school lunch system varies greatly from country to country. American school lunches are eaten in the cafeteria. School lunches are not a must and students pay for them on the spot if they buy at school cafeteria. This allows students to choose between home lunch and school lunches.

In America School lunch menus and choices are different from those in Japan. According to the article “Encounter with an American school lunch” in Japan today newspaper, In America, you choose your main course first, then you go to the salad bar. There are a few rules for the salad bar; you must choose one main fruit or vegetable and take three more vegetables. Thus, unlike in Japan, American school lunches have a choice of menus.

There are several problems with American school lunches. For example, lack of nutrients (citation needed). This is because companies that provide school lunches are in business to make money, and the health of children is not always the top priority. Therefore, the United States needs to provide healthy school lunches like Japan.

Conclusion.
Recent research results on healthier school lunches are becoming more available in the United States. Current findings show that safer and healthier school lunches will be available in the United States in the future. There are many differences between school lunches in the America and Japan, including the menus and systems. In addition, in America, not only do they eat lunch, but they also eat breakfast at school. First difference between the American and Japanese school lunch systems is that not everyone eats school lunches. Secondly, the place they eat is the cafeteria, not the classroom. Thirdly, you can choose your own menu.
