Studying Abroad: Learning in Ireland

Abstract
This research report explores the characteristics, merits, and demerits of studying abroad in Ireland. The author used 14 to research Learning in Ireland. The author’s analysis shows that the Ireland is an attractive choice to study abroad because Japanese can study English effectively, take quality classes, and costs are not high like the United Kingdom.

Introduction
Ireland is an island country in northwestern Europe in the north Atlantic Ocean (1. The official languages in Ireland are two, Irish and English (2. Education in Ireland is quality (3, and also studying abroad in Ireland is not too expensive like studying abroad in America. Then, how good is learning in Ireland for Japanese? What the characteristics? The aim of this research is to explore the characteristics, merits, and demerits of studying abroad in Ireland.

Literature Review
There are many great countries for studying abroad in Europe. Ireland is one of these countries. According to studee, The United Kingdom is the most popular country in Europe for studying abroad (studee, n.d. (4). However, Ireland has some characteristics that other country doesn’t have. Also, there are some merits and demerits. For example, culture, Japanese population, education quality, cost for studying abroad… Is Ireland good for studying abroad for Japanese? Please read this report and think how good learning in Ireland. In Ireland, Celtic Culture is famous. It started to evolve as early as 1200 B.C. Across Europe, the Celts have been credited with many artistic innovations, including intricate stone carving and fine metalworking. As a result, elaborate Celtic designs in artifacts crafted from gold, silver and precious gemstones are a major part of museum collections throughout Europe and North America (9. Studying abroad in Ireland is recommended to people who want to study English, who want to take quality classes who want to study in Europe by cheap costs. First, about studying English. The official languages in Ireland are two, Irish and English (2. Also, the number of Japanese who live in Ireland is low. According to Statista, the number of it is 29 thousand in 2019 (Statista, n.d. (10). According to Worldometer, the population in Ireland in 2019 is 4882 thousand (Worldometer, 2019(11), so it can be said that Japanese population in Ireland is low.

If the population of Japanese is low, people can study English hard because people don’t speak Japanese so often. From these, Ireland is recommended to Japanese who want to study English effectively. Next, about education quality. Table 1 shows the ranking of height of education quality. Actually, Ireland ranks 15th in the ranking, and it’s higher than the United Kingdom. From these, Ireland is recommended to people who want to take quality classes too. Last, about costs for studying abroad. According to Across The Pond USA (7, the costs for studying abroad in the United Kingdom is $17,000 – $25,000. On the other hand, the costs for studying abroad in Ireland is $7,800, about half of the United Kingdom. The two countries are in Europe, so Ireland is recommended to people who want to study
abroad in Europe by low costs. However, there are also demerits of studying abroad in Ireland. First, according to Chef’s Wonderland, there are only 100 –150 Japanese restaurants in Ireland in 2020, so students can’t eat Japanese food so often (Chef’s Wonderland, 2020(12). Next, staples food in Ireland is potatoes (13, so maybe Japanese get tired of eating same food, potatoes.
Ireland has Celtic culture and it’s traditional. The daily lives sometimes connect to Celtic culture.


There are three merits for studying abroad in Ireland. First, Japanese population is low, so people can study
English effectively. Next, Ireland ranks 15th of ranking of education quality in the world, so people can take
quality classes. Last, costs for studying abroad is low, so people can freely enjoy studying in Europe. However,
there are also two demerits. First, there are only 100 – 150 Japanese restaurants, so people can’t eat Japanese
food so often. Next, the staples food in Ireland is potatoes, so it’s easy to get tired of eating same food.

Summary
Recent research on Learning in Ireland has provided an understanding what the characteristics, merits, and demerits of studying abroad in Ireland. Studying abroad in Ireland is recommended to Japanese who want to study English effectively, who want to take quality classes, and who want to study abroad in Europe by low costs. However, Ireland is not recommended to Japanese who want to be stimulated on daily lives in a studying abroad country. According to Kaplan Pathways, there are 8 main reasons why people study abroad. It’s a challenge, experience a different culture, top quality education, learn a new language, career opportunities, make new friends, international travel, and become independent (Kaplan Pathways, Jan 25th, 2019 (14). Studying abroad in Ireland can achieve these things, so Ireland is good choice for studying abroad.
