Abstract
This research article explores the difference between Japanese manga and American comics to study about foreign culture. The author used 2 different comics, 4 websites to research the difference. The author could know about American comics well. America has many different cultures from Japan. The author thinks American comic is one of it. It is more fun to learn about other cultures from what everyone else likes. Please use this article to understand about America.
Introduction
In every country, comics are a very important culture. Each has deep history, and many dramas. Japanese comics are read by many foreigners. American comics, too. But, a lot of people will not know the difference without reading this. The aim of research is to explore the difference between Japanese manga and American comics.
Literature Review
Almost all of people in the world read comic books. American reads American style comics, and Japanese reads Japanese style comics called “Manga”. American and Japanese, each has its own feature. The author picked up three differences. First, the two are born in different years. American comic was born in 1849. Its name is “Journey to the Gold Diggings”. Of course, there are no colors at that time. From here, American style comics do not change their structure. The most of famous comic is a hero story. For example, Ironman, Batman and Spiderman. American hero is not for children. Many of American heroes are for adult. The first Manga that was published in 12th century to 13th century was called “Chouju Zinbutu Giga”. Many people wrote this. But, it is different than present manga. It shows people at that time. Manga changed their style and the present manga was published in 1950. Its name is “Jungle Emperor” written by Osamu Teduka. From here, Manga got its style.
Manga and American comic are different in how they are printed. American comics are printed on hard paper with colors. Many companies do this. So, American comic make their mood. American sometimes use color wall. Please look at the picture.
American do not use real backdrop. So, people can enjoy their mood. Japanese use real backdrop many times. People can immerse themselves in the world.
Last is reading direction. American comic is published from left to right because English sentence is usually written from left to right. So, this direction is easier to read than right to left. Manga is from published from right to left because, Almost of cartoonists write sentence length. Some write border, but they get together.
Conclusion
Recent research on what is the difference between Manga and American style comic was done. The result of this research is there are many difference and it shows each comic book tastes very much. Each has its own good points. Any one can not decide which comic is better. Last, there are main differences. For example, history, print (color, paper) and reading direction.
