Entertainment in China

Abstract
This research article explores the entertainment in China that made the connection between China and Japan. The author used 14 different websites to research about entertainment in China and entertainment in Japan, too. The author’s analysis shows that the China is important country that influences many cultures because many famous cultures were born in China. For many students who want to learn about traditional culture, the China is an interesting country to learn things in entertainment field.

Introduction
China has very long history. Of course, many cultures were born in China and many entertainments of Japan came from China. What entertainment was born in China? What is the connection between culture of Japan and culture of China? You can know after you read this article. The aim of this research is to explore the entertainments that was born in China as one of the historical countries.

Literature Review
In China, there are many traditional games that were originally born in China. This paragraph focused about plays and games. First, China has Chinese football called “Cuju”. In Japan, people called “Kemari”(蹴鞠). According to the website (Rice-Coates, 2019), it is said that Cuju or kick-ball became popular in the Han Dynasty (206BC-AD220). The ball was made of leather and Cuju came from China to Japan in about 1400 years ago. Next, China has many board games. The first one is “Go”. According to the website (“5 Traditional Chinese Board Games that are Still Really Popular,” 2020), Go is world oldest board game and many people believe Go was made in 4000 years ago. Some people think “Go” was made in Japan, (In Japan, “Go” called “Igo”囲碁) but that’s misconception. Many people that not only Japanese but also foreign people play Go today. The second one is “Mahjong”(麻雀). It is said that mahjong was born in China and Confucius that famous philosopher was invented. However, this is not well known. If it is true, mahjong was born in 500 BC. Many plays and games that many people play even now were born in China.


Many musical instruments are also born in China. Some ancient Japan writings wrote about musical instruments that are born in China. This paragraph focused about musical instruments. First, China has “Pipa”(琵琶). The pipa is an important instrument when people perform their orchestral music in China. According to the article (“Pipa | musical instrument,” n.d.), the direct ancestor of the pipa that came from Persia and reached western China in the 4th century AD was introduced to Japan (This is Biwa). Pipa is very difficult, but it has many expression methods. Next, China has “Dizi”. Dizi is bamboo flute and one of the most popular traditional Chinese instruments. According to the website (“Dizi, Chinese Bamboo Flute, Chinese Musical Instrument,” n.d.), Dizi has history of more than 7000 years. Performers play like a flute and they have to have high-quality techniques. In this way, China has a lot of traditional instruments too.

Do you know famous Chinese event? It is similar to Japan. This paragraph focused about Chinese New Year. That is one of the Chinese traditional festivals. Chinese New Year is 1st to 15th of the first lunar month. First, Chinese people do clean up. According to the article (“21 Chinese New Year’s Customs and Traditions You Should Know,” 2016), people clean the house because they want to eliminate the dust and get ready for a new start. In Japan, people clean the houses, offices, and schools, too. Next, most of Chinese put “Fu” character. Fu means happiness. (In Japanese, people write 福.) People put many place upsides down because of their difference of words pronunciation. So, putting “Fu” is different, but it is similar to Japan. According to the website (“Upside-down ‘Fu’ Character,” n.d.), first habit was made in 11th Century-256 BC. Chinese events are similar to Japan, and it has a long history with each habit.

Conclusion
In Japan, many events and plays or games are similar to China. This article showed about entertainment in ancient China. According to research, China has a lot of traditional entertainments and they are still popular with people in China. So, people may cherish traditional Chinese entertainment. As a result, China has a lot of traditional games, instruments, and events. For example, cuju, go, pipa, cleaning up, and putting “Fu”. Many cultural things were born in China, and even today, people enjoy those entertainment in China.
